beautiful new cookbook from Gentl and Hyers Photography
Andrea Gentl and Marty Hyers have been creating beautiful photographs for many years. Their Clean Start Cookbook images are stunning. I love the variety of hand-made ceramics used to show off the food. A few gleena pieces made it in, too. To view more images from this book, please click here.

Kobi Levi: Art with Shoes
A graduate from Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Jerusalem, Kobi Levi crafts unusual designs for his shoes, each one of which is hand-made in his studio.
His recent collection is bizzare, but with a lot of creativity flowing into it, and they sure are interesting. Kobi says, "I see these shoes as wearable sculptures. It is important to me that they will be real shoes and not sculptures or toys".

The design below is a chewing gum shoes, Kobi says "With ‘chewing gum’ I wanted to capture a frozen moment in everyday life - so a high heel shoe was born by creating a sneaker that looked like it had stepped on chewing gum."

Born in Israel, Kobi Levi has his own workshop where he creates his fantastic shoes. His designs absolutely wearable though they seem to be like ones you will never be able to walk in.

SWAP AND SAVE!!!
HELLO FABULOUS LADIES AND GENTS!
WELL, I HAVE A HOT NEW TREND THAT CAN HELP YOU SAVE LOTS OF MONEY AND YOU WILL HAVE LOTS OF FUN TOO!
I KNOW IT IS HARD WHEN YOU ARE ON A BUDGET AND YOU JUST WISH YOU CAN GO ON A SHOPPING SPLURGE. WELL, I HAVE A GREAT IDEA!
HAVE A SWAP PARTY! WHAT IS A SWAP PARTY? SWAP PARTIES ARE THE HOTTEST TREND TO SHOP WITHOUT SPENDING A DIME. A GROUP OF PEOPLE GET TOGETHER (I.E. MIXER - HAVE FRIENDS OVER!) TO SWAP ITEMS. (I.E. CLOTHES, ACCESSORIES, SHOES, KIDS CLOTHES, HANDBAGS, ETC. ETC.)
HERE IS SOME INFO I FOUND ON SUITE 101:
Swap Party Rules
- Invite 25 people and ask each person to bring one friend. Remember that when 25 people are invited, the usual response is 1/3 of those invited will actually attend.
- Each person attending must bring five nearly new items from their closet. Popular items to bring include: unworn or lightly worn shoes or sandals, purses, blouses, dresses, jeans, jackets, vests, jewelry, scarves, and hats.
- Each attendee will also bring a tapas, appetizer, dessert, or salad. This should be cleared with the hostess prior to the party. Very organized hostesses will ask for recipes to be printed out to go along with the dishes for party goers to take home.
- Each person attending will leave with five chosen items.
Setting Up the Swap Party
A great way to set up the party is to have appetizers in the kitchen along with drinks, while desserts are placed on the dining room table. Clothes can be hung on racks or placed all around the house in a creative fashion. Each swap party hostess will decide how to display the items.Clothing sizes should be grouped together in rooms; small (sizes 2, 4, 6 Ladies) should be in one room, medium (8, 10, 12) in one room, and large sizes (14, 16, 18, and larger) should be grouped or hung in another room. This allows the party goers to move freely about chatting, looking at the items up for swap, and snacking on appetizers and desserts.
Shoes and sandals should be lined up along walls in order of their sizes. Small (5 - 6), med (7 - 8) and large (9-10) can be set up with their s-m-lg clothing groupings.
HERE IS AN INVITATION IDEA!
Swap and Shop
Once the party goers have had about an hour to mix, snack, look at and try on the items up for swap, the group will be asked to sit down and numbers will be passed out to all the attendees.Number one will go first and pick one item from the entire grouping, then number two, number three, etc. until all attendees have chosen one item to take home. This will continue until each person has chosen five items to take home. The party should last about 3 hours or at most, 3 -1/2 hours.
SO THERE YOU GO! START PLANNING YOUR DIVA SWAP PARTY! THIS WILL BE A GREAT EXCUSE TO MINGLE WITH YOUR GIRLFRIENDS AND SHOP FOR FREE!!!!!!

Kerry Washington Redeems Herself in Costello Tagliapietra...
Loved this dress on Kerry as soon as I saw it on her (unlike the Ports 1961 dress that she belted) and this dress she could have belted. The fall color (burnt orange? copper? terracotta?) the dramatic draping, the length, the way it looks against her skin is all perfection. Love it.

Casual, Cosy and Stylish: Work the Look
Going casual does not mean you'll score less on style. Casual and stylish can be synonymous if you work it right. With winters round the corner, dresses and skirts may not always be practical and layering becomes important to keep yourself from cold.
But that's the best part, you have myriad options to dress up for the winters and layering can be so much fun!!!!
Lets check out some of the stylish ladies who worked out the casual and chic style to their advantage.
Olivia Palermo
Olivia Palermo, the ever stylish American socialite, model and actress, worked out a smart all black look, while keeping things basics. She added finesse to her ensemble by mixing textures in wet-look skinnies (its an absolute no no if you are not lean), a sleek blazer and shaggy gillet. A tan structured classy clutch and Chanel pumps added a subtle colour pop, and completed the look just perfectly.
Claudia Schiffer
Claudia likes to keep things basic, she is usually sported in a very casual yet uber stylish ensemble. It works best because of the practicality yet not loosing on the style.
She was spotted in a dark jeans and sweater ensemble, on which she added a colourful scarf for the Parisian chic and a pop of colour, and stylishly roped a tan belt on the waist. Her satchel was both practical and stylish and perfectly complemented the look.
How to create these looks:
A classy accessory: simple and chic works very well for a casual yet stylish look
- add a pop of colour through a scarf (French women are known for their style, and a scarf is one of their best accessory)
- a simple structured clutch or smart tote or satchel can updo your look. But remember too keep it simple.
- A dark ensemble can become interesting through a pop of colour. Add it through your accessory like shoes, scarf, bag, a statement necklace
- Layering is great to get the style and keep you warm. A warm knitted sweater layered with a smart blazer or a jacket is good for any look.

The Gap Spring 2011...
Gap's global caravan touched down in London to showcase its Spring collection, and creative director Patrick Robinson was all about the sophisticated and the sexy. When he was growing up, he wasn't alone in thinking of the chain as casual weekendwear. "It was just one part of people's lives," the designer said. Robinson sees this latest collection as putting in place the final components of his four-year revisioning of Gap, which is seeking to re-establish its hold on consumers' hearts and purse strings. He's bumped up the blouses, introduced a soft tailoring element, and brought a new body-consciousness to knitwear.
What Robinson has brought to the brand is tightly edited precision. "No longer a table with one sweater in 30 colors," he said. Yep, instead of multiples, what stood out were specific pieces, like the white silk crepe cocktail dress with the keyhole back (Gap? Get used to it!) or the long white cotton skirt with big patch pockets (LOVE IT), paired with a cap-sleeved top for an elegant evening option (Gap? Get used to it two times!), or the slouchy hooded jacket, with the volume of a radically cropped djellaba. There was something of the classic Perry Ellis spirit in such easy but chic outfits (Robinson did, after all, design for Ellis at one point). The designer also subtly tipped his cap to Gap's heritage by lining a soft lapel-less jacket with gray sweatshirting.

11 Year Old Designer Cecilia Cassini Wants to be 27.
Just watched this interview of 11 year old fashion designer Cecilia Cassini on the Nate Berkus show and I have to tell you, it was hard for me to watch. There's no reason for this child to work so hard at acting older than her years. But you can't really blame her, I mean I'm sure she's not raising herself. Her talent at such a young age should speak for itself without all the extra. Just sayin'.

gleena and Harney & Sons
I have been an admirer of Harney & Sons Fine Teas for a long long time. I was first drawn to their exquisite packaging, and then got hooked on the superb tea. For a few years I have been wanting to send Harney & Sons my wee teas, thinking that the two belong together. How serendipitous it was that I met the Harney family at The NY Gift Fair? And here is the result of our meeting: a Harney & Sons wee tea alphabet, with the names of the teas Harney & Sons carries. The perfect blend of my graphic design experience and my ceramic inclination. My favorite project to date (and a dream come true).
To see the cups in person, visit the Harney & Sons Tea Tasting Room on Main Street, The Railroad Plaza, Millerton, NY.

Style Verdict: Kerry Washington's Belted Ports 1961 Dress...
Kerry Washington attended the Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards at The IAC Building on October 12, 2010 in New York City. Kerry's hair and makeup are both gorgeous, her dress is from Ports 1961 Spring 2011 collection (see it below) and she belted it. The belt isn't terrible with the dress, but I wouldn't have. What's your style verdict?
Heidi Klum is the New Face of Ann Taylor...
via the NYPost:
Heidi Klum may have retired her Victoria's Secret angel wings, but she's already landed her next big contract. Klum, who as we first reported last month quit VS after 13 years, is the new face of Ann Taylor, replacing Naomi Watts. A source tells us Klum will be the face of the retailer's 2010 holiday campaign and the ads, shot by famed British photographer Rankin, "show the German supermodel layered in festive bling."

Mary J. Recreates Iconic Diana Ross Ebony Mag Cover...
Mary J. Blige recreated Diana Ross' iconic magazine cover (from 1970) for Ebony Magazine's 65th Anniversary. And all I have to say about this is WOW. Fabulous job Ebony Art Department. Fabulous job.
Sexy High Heels + Comfort = GENIUS.
Wow. Shoe designers are finally starting to "get it". Women want to wear sexy heels, but many of them (including yours truly) don't want to wear them at the risk of having them surgically removed with a side effect of excruciating pain. European shoe label Aperlaï is one such shoe label who had the foresight to address these concerns:
via Style.com:
It’s heartening to see shoe designers addressing the not-so-sexy issue of comfort. In Paris, I went to see shoe label Aperlaï (top shoe), whose designer, the very stylish Alessandra Lanvin, doesn’t want you to have to stow a pair of Repetto BB’s in your bag in case you can’t find a taxi. “In Paris, we walk everywhere,” said Lanvin. “You should be able to do that in your heels.” Her techniques include padding the sole where the ball of the foot rests and creating a heel that’s essentially an elongated pyramid with the top lopped off. It reads spindly but is secretly sturdy. And seeing as Lanvin produces in the same Italian factory as Alaïa and Prada, these ideas are all but guaranteed to have excellent execution.
Then there’s Korean-born designer Raphael Young, whose in-your-face fierce aesthetic (bottom shoe) would lead you to believe that the idea of a comfortable heel would be completely anathema. But Young revealed that he’ll soon unveil a patented technology that makes 110-mm shoes feel like your Nikes (this dude deserves a serious high-five). Here’s to the end of the High-Heel Hobble.
