The only applications that might use this are military applications. Which are most likely classified applications. But in short, no, a normal application wouldn't use it. ;)
Depends on what you call normal.

I have a Macbook Air 11 Ultimate and I was having issues with 10.6.7 (playing Portal/Netflix) hoping that downgrading to 10.6.6 will help. So I want to reinstall SL and get back to 10.6.6, but trying to do a reinstall with my SL dvd is not working. I get to boot off the DVD with the option key, and it allows me to select the dvd to install, but right after that I get a box saying I have to reboot (in multiple languages).
I get this same result from a SL USB drive or a SL DVD. I lost my USB thumb drive that came with the macbook.
Any suggestions?

Log into another fresh account. Make sure it works there. Then delete your actual account's finder preferences. That should do it.

I had the 400 iMac DV SE, and I just put in a 500MHz w/ a better grphx card (was on the 500mhz mobo) and it runs like a charm. Just get the mobo off eBay and there ya go! ;)
so you brought the 500mzh motherboard and just stuck it in, and it worked fine cool

Hey guys. We know that the MB 2008 only adress 6GB RAM even the 8GB kit is installed (OWC wrote this) if more than 6GB memory is inserted then the machine would lag horribly
I have the latest boot ROM version [MB51.007D.B03]
Ya i haven't made any upgrades in a while.
Someone told me this :http://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/07/secret-firmware-update-unlocks-support-for-8-gb-ram-on-late-2008-notebooks/
so i ask question in this thread.
so should i install 8GB (2x4GB's) on my MB 2008 Alu?
Mac OS 10.6.7 2.0GHz 2GB stock RAM 160GB 5400RPM stock HDD
6Gb will run just fine without any modification, I believe the 8Gb boot ROM thing only applies to the first unibodies from nor your early 2008 version.

I can leave my SSD as is (that is, I can continue to choose to boot from that and have it run Snow Leopard).
I can installed Lion on the Hard Disk and choose to boot from that if I want.
Yes.
Question: If my home folder is stored on the Hard Disk for when I run Snow Leopard with the SSD, how do I prevent home folder complications when I install Lion on the Hard Disk? Don't want it to mess up the snow leopard experience.
Lion will create a new Home folder to its own partition. You can, however, change the location of the Home folder to be the same as Snow Leopard's. I have done that since my Lion partition is only 50GB. That way all your data will be in the same location, no matter what OS you use.

Congrats on the well-deserved vacation, I hope you enjoy it.
I was working those kind of hours for a couple of months toward the end of last year. Aggressive software deadlines. I count myself fortunate that I get paid for the overtime. It's much easier to accept working at 8pm on a Sunday night when I know I can charge time and a half for the entire weekend!
Things have settled a bit but I'm finding a comfortable pace of working mostly regular hours during the week, plus coming in on Sunday afternoons for a few OT hours.

1) They are 2 distinct drives in the Finder.
2) Wherever you designate your download folder, that is where you will download items. Manypeople use the SSD as the boot drive for the OS and applications, storing Home folder data/files on the HD.

I have two laptops a Ti powerbook with an airport card and a sony laptop with a PCI Belkin 802.11b card. The powerbook connects fine with the basestation, but the sony does not even see the airport basestation. I have it set up for dhcp and it is set for 802.11b only. I also have a linksys wireless router at my office which the sony can connect to without any problems, so the computer and card appear to be fine. Can Windows machines use Airport basestations?

Yeah the buttons at the bottom of that window are the ones.
Wow, they've completely changed the "about this Mac" screen for the first time in Mac OSX. Its looks way better, and you no longer need to go into the system profiler to get basic stats, or use iStat Pro. Wow...:D Can NOT wait to get Lion!
It's still not in the dashboard so I'm not too sure about it replacing iStat Pro. Don't think I want to click :apple: -> About this Mac -> System and then view the information. Would rather just hit F4

I have the 2011 i7 quad core 2.2ghz 15" macbook pro and I believe I have the crap job of the thermal paste applied inside the cpu unit. Being unaware how macs work internally I don't want to mess up anything in my laptop. I just purchased this last month and was wondering does the Apple Genius Bar reapply thermal paste for you if you ask for it? or will I have to try and take this elsewhere.

I'll post it elsewhere when I get home. I have seen a number of very similar problems that seem to stem from bad wu's so I'll keep trying. It would be my luck though to have the first wu be bad making me think my set up isn't right.
yeah. let us know if you get it to work. hopefully your setup isn't bad.

ha! i actually bought this cd off itunes a few months ago. could do with some more sequencing and layering. but what it is great for is sampling. i took one of the ink cartridge hitting the side of the caseing sounds and processed it into a kick drum. heres a rough mix.

Well, at least yours is ... um ... musical.
Neither is exactly in my tastes, though I could imagine a dot-matrix "song" that might be interesting in the way trained seals playing bike horns is interesting.

i have the windows cd but i have no idea how to repair it using the cd. can someone help me with the commands?
XP, Vista, 7?
If XP: Insert disc, hold alt/opt at startup then choose the Windows disc. Wait for the computer to load all the drivers etc. Then press the following keys in the following order: 'Enter', 'F8', then 'R'. Then follow the onscreen prompts. It'll look like Windows is reinstalling itself but it is actually just repairing the system. All your files and settings will be preserved.
Vista/7: Insert disc, hold alt/opt at startup then choose the Windows disc. Wait for the computer to load the Windows installer. Choose language/kb layout/etc then click Next. Don't click Install now, instead, select Repair your computer. Choose your Windows installation in the popup and click Next. Installer will search for problems and give you the option to repair you installation, if possible.
Cheers

I need an ATI PCI Video card that'll work with my PowerMac G3 B&W. I'm currently using an old PCI card from my old PowerMac 9600 so if I could replace it in time for christmas (I'm giving the computer away as a gift to my Grandma) then that would be fantastic.
I see some going on eBay so if I can't find one here I'll purchase one on there. I can pay via PayPal, or if you really want maybe we can trade somehting. Thanks! :)
I have a hadware modded (replaced with 128K ROM) radeon 7000 64MB card. I should have it on one of my old G3s. For 50$ + 5$(priority mail shipping?)

The next Mac Mini should be fine for that. If as hoped it gets a Sandy Bridge processor it'll make the MacBook Air look terribly slow in comparison for CPU intensive tasks, especially if you put a SSD in the Mini.
As for EyeTV, the current Mini isn't as powerful as many of us would like, but I find it to be adequate. Hopefully the refresh will correct this and allow smooth playing of live sport in HDTV using progressive scan.
I have EyeTV and two 2009 Minis and see no problems other than the motion problem inherent in 1080i video. Changing computers won't fix that problem.

Maybe I wouldn't have done it with my machine, but it sure is very individually. I'm beginning to think about some case moding on my ol' cube...
